Madam CJ Walker was the first female self-made millionaire in the United States. She was born Sarah Breedlove in 1867 in Louisiana. Today, we honor Madam CJ Walker for her contributions to the Hair & Beauty industry.

She built her cosmetics empire from the ground up, starting with door-to-door sales of her "Wonderful Hair Grower" product and eventually owning her own manufacturing plant and beauty salons.

She was a civil rights and women's rights activist, donating to the NAACP and establishing the Madam C.J. Walker Benevolent Association.

Madam CJ Walker was awarded the Spingarn Medal by the NAACP in 1919 for her philanthropy and business success.

In 2019, Netflix released a series about her life and accomplishments called "Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker".
